Lofoten Sail & Summit Mission Logistics

Reaching Lofoten is pretty straightforward, unlike our Greenland expeditions: there are flights from everywhere (pretty much) to Oslo. Once you’re in Oslo, its only a short Domestic transfer which will bring you to Svolvaer Airport (SVJ) which is right in Lofoten and there are several flights every day especially during summer

Swap Your Schedule

One of the most fun things about our Lofoten sail and summit missions is that we LITERALLY swap day for night. Why hike during the day just like everybody else when the best light waits for us between 10pm and 4am? Follow the sun and flip the script, we say!

Imagine waking up at 1pm for breakfast, “lunch” comes out at 5pm, then we pack our evening meal and at 9pm we leave to go and experience the true wonders of the Arctic midnight sun. That is a real snapshot of our days on board.

You never get used to it, and it never ceases to amaze. This could be your life, for one week! You will daily pinch yourself and stay “wow, I can’t believe this is 3 in the f* morning!”

Live Decadently and Carefree with us!

Sometimes you need an experience that will shake the tree of your existence. That’s why we don’t do things by half measures, persuing a bon vivant lifestyle in every way we can; what does that mean, we hear you ask? Champagne, port, cheese, poetry and other delicacies as well as a full board service from our full time time chef. The bread is fresh and the liquids flow. All very civilised (and decadent) of course. We cannot rest from adventure, and we drink life to the lees(!).

On our Hike and Sail missions, you do not “become” the crew as is sometimes the case: we have a full time crew so that you can focus on the good stuff: our only expectation is that you come ready to experience a vast array of beautiful sights.

Ship Life Happy Life

The problem with the world is that everyone is trying to do everything at the same time, even when they don’t have to. That is the true power of travelling on a ship, as we do. we can reach places that are much harder to reach otherwise.

Being on board this big beautiful ship that moves for you means that when we’re back from our hiking, our ship changes location for us very easily without any investment of time or energy on our part. When we wake up, we are in a few place, ready to absorb the beauty of the Arctic midsummer.

Hit the Ground Running at Home

When you’ve swapped your schedule day for night as we do on our Lofoten Hike and Sail Mission, it comes with some unexpected benefits.

When the time comes to go home, for those of you who may be crossing “the pond”, operating on a schedule that s shifted 5 hours forward suddenly is a great idea once you’re back home: the clock rolls back 5 hours and with barely any adjustment, you’re practically back to you’re usual/regular schedule. At least, this si what our people from last year reported!

Starting with a bang; our first hike was the Segla viewpoint, and were truly blessed with this incredible rainbow. Shot at around 01:30am.

YOUR HOSTS FOR THIS LOFOTEN HIKE & SAIL MISSION

Expedition Leader Joe

Welcome, curious explorer! Joe here

My affinity for the Arctic & Polar Regions has no limits. Through my lens and many years of exploration, I have honed the artful skill of curating positive and purposeful experiences which I take great joy in sharing with fellow explorers.

I pursue a gratuitous and exuberant expedition leading style. I believe fervently in enjoying myself and fomenting an atmosphere of merriment and jubilation with my expedition parties. I strive to use my expedition time on the most remote and unique places and experience, but I’m always ready for whatever nature has lined up for me. I am always there for my people.

For me, seducing the spirits of fellow explorers and sharing in the wonders of the Arctic is my eternally-repeatable aim. Bringing people together with a common passion has always been my favourite thing: there’s a special energy in this that I have never found anywhere else.⁣

The Illustrious Kat Shortsleeve, Traveller Extraordinaire

Shortsleeve Travel Club was born after Kat graduated from Columbia Business School, where she studied entrepreneurship and private equity. Originally from Boston, Kat moved to DC for her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University.

Having traveled to over 50 countries, including dozens of solo trips, her love for travel began at just 10 years old when she flew solo from Boston to Florida to visit her grandparents during Easter break.

Her passion for travel truly ignited in 2011 when she downloaded Instagram and discovered influencers traveling the world—a lifestyle she had yet to experience. Inspired, Kat started her first business sewing and selling purses to save for her first international trip: a volunteer/adventure group to Fiji with a high school program. This life-changing experience of connecting with people from around the world solidified her love for travel and sparked the concept for Shortsleeve Travel Club.

TAKE A TOUR OF OUR SHIP, S/V LINDEN!

S/V Linden is undeniably a swoon-worthy vessel.  This elegant 50 meter three-masted tall ship captures everyones attention as she glides on the polar seas. Built in 1993, as a modern take on the original Linden from 1923, she has been sailing for more than thirty years around the northerly seas

Linden will host us in her bright and comfortable main saloon, where you can watch the waves roll by. Accommodation is made up of 6 twin bunk-style cabins. Day to day life on board is exciting yet easy-going: we will discuss the upcoming route over a hearty breakfast, plan our days activities, share life experiences and keep our binoculars close to hand as we scout for wildlife.

There is, of course, a well-sized sauna on board, which will be the perfect refuge after a polar-plunge!

OUR PEOPLE MEAN EVERYTHING TO US. MEMORIES FROM YEARS PAST.
