This voyage is co-led by Joe Shutter, a polar expedition photographer based in Iceland, and Rasmus Jacobsen, the captain of S/V Linden, and an experienced Arctic navigator raised on the sea. Together, they’ll guide the ship through remote fjords and ice-filled channels. But the real story is shaped by the 12 people aboard — all of whom value curiosity, stillness, and a step beyond the ordinary.

British-Brazilian, based in Iceland, Joe has spent years sailing in Eastern Greenland and exploring the polar regions. With a background in photography and deep roots in Arctic travel, he leads with exuberance, purpose, and infectious joy. His expeditions are shaped by connection, curiosity, and camaraderie.

Rasmus Jacobsen

Captain of S/V Linden & Experienced Navigator

Raised on the sea between Denmark and a family yacht, I’ve lived a maritime, eco-conscious life from the start. Over the past 30 years, I’ve sailed aboard galleons, square rigs, research vessels, and polar ships. My focus lies in exploring the most untouched reaches of the Arctic — especially where there’s no trace of human presence. Committed to low-impact sailing, my crew and I seek Svalbard’s beauty with purpose. Partnering with The Great Expedition Company is a natural extension of that ethos.
